Strategy is than more ideas generated during a brainstorming session with a general idea of how to implement them. In fact, ideas that fall in the brainstorming category can be positively dangerous. Strategy is more about what you won’t do and why, than it is about new ideas.
Maybe that’s why so many fail to do the hard work strategy involves. It’s not the fun, exciting and energizing part of a project. Instead it is the refining of ideas, the plotting of how to get the pieces in order and moving, and the “not yet” reminders.
When you do strategy right, the results can be phenomenal. Robert Fritz’s acid test is a good way to keep on track.
