It’s 2 p.m. on a hot Saturday afternoon and I’m still undecided exactly how to spent my day. What should I invest my time in that will give me the greatest sense of accomplishment?

That right there might be the problem. I have a task mentality and I’m looking for whatever will allow me to check something off my to-do list. And it is the most gratifying to mark something fully finished.

The truth is, most everything thing in life is completed by accomplishing a series of small tasks. One step, then another, then another. Granted that isn’t the most rewarding for a serious checker-offer like myself, but maybe what I need to do is instead of a list filled with items like “read,” I need to create a listing such as “read chapter 6 of ________.” That’s manageable and doable. And I even get to check it off my list!

The image of the pink flowers in this post is a result of that kind of thinking. I had a chance to pop into a local park known for its fabulous gardens. I almost didn’t but then thought, I have an annual pass. I’ll stop for 15 minutes. I did and the result was over a dozen new images.

Small steps. That’s the secret.
